Talk about swings and roundabouts! A Logan man is now a $3,000,000 Powerball winner just a few days after being involved in a minor car accident. His bad luck turned to good fortune instantly when he checked his ticket. He realised he was the sole Division 1 winner from the 23rd of June 2016 draw.
“I had no idea! It’s wonderful, wonderful, wonderful!”
The lucky Powerball winner said that he had had “such a close call” when another driver hit his car the previous week. Fortunately, nobody was hurt in the accident. After playing Powerball “all year”, the prang didn’t stop him from buying his 18-game Quickpick ticket from a local newsagency. A Quickpick ticket means your lotto numbers are selected automatically, and in this case, the strategy paid off.
“That’s the luck of the draw! You never really know what life will deliver to you and what will happen next.”
He said the windfall meant he could finally relax and retire after a lifetime of working hard. Most importantly, he planned to give his children a head start in life by paying off their mortgages in a big step toward financial freedom.
The winning numbers from Powerball draw 1049 were 36, 17, 35, 40, 8 and 10 plus Powerball number 13.
There have been other stories of Australian lotto players who turned their fortunes around with a lotto ticket.
In November 2014, a man from Melbourne with just 8 cents left in the bank won $1.5 million in a $21 Million TattsLotto Superdraw. Astoundingly, the single father of two had been to see a psychic in the days prior to the draw. They told him his financial situation would soon be looking up.
The stunned Division 1 winner said that his massive lotto windfall would “certainly do the trick” in that regard, adding that his win “must have been written in the stars.”
After checking his ticket “about 10 times”, it finally sunk in that he had become an instant millionaire. “Now I have $1,500,000.08,” he said. The man planned to use the money to help his family and invest in his children’s future.
