First-time winner: Sydney man lands $76K Powerball prize in draw 1588

A Sydney man is planning a Christmas holiday after winning $76,043.70 in Powerball draw 1588. It’s the biggest win of his life.

The NSW player bought an 18-game Standard Powerball entry through Oz Lotteries for the draw on Thursday 22 October 2026. One game matched all seven winning numbers, just missing the Powerball, for a Division 2 Powerball prize of $75,954.60. Another game matched four numbers plus the Powerball for a Division 6 prize of $89.10.

“It hasn’t sunk in”

The Powerball winner found out from his win notification email the next morning. When the Oz Lotteries team called to congratulate him, he was still taking it in.

“I got an email this morning. It’s very exciting,” he said. “It’s fantastic. The timing is wonderful and I’m very, very excited.”

It’s his first big win.

“Nothing like this, no, never. It’s the first time,” he said. “I don’t think it’s sunk in. I think I’ll just do some nice stuff for my wife and I.”

Celebrations after work, a holiday at Christmas

So far, only his wife and dad know. He planned to start celebrating as soon as the workday was over.

“I think there’ll be some celebrating in order this afternoon, after I finish work today.”

He doesn’t have big plans yet.

“We’ll just take it slow, maybe a nice holiday at Christmas time.”

Back-to-back NSW Powerball winners

He’s the second NSW player in a row to win a Division 2 Powerball prize with Oz Lotteries. Just a week earlier, in draw 1587, a NSW man checked his results at half-time and found a $172K Powerball prize.
