Man Finds Winning $1m Ticket in His Car After 414 Days!

A Newcastle man has become perhaps the luckiest Saturday Lotto winner! After finding an unregistered lotto ticket in his car, he discovered he had won $1,020,496.38 in Saturday Lotto back on the 9^th of January 2016.

The Newcastle man stated he had been “a bit stupid” by misplacing and forgetting about his ticket for over 400 days.

“I line the bottom of my reusable Aldi shopping bags with old beer cartons to give them some strength. The ticket was hidden in underneath it and I didn’t know it was there!”

The man says he was cleaning out rubbish in his car over the weekend and decided to replace the cartons in the bottom of all his bags as they were getting work out and torn. This is when he found the ticket.

“I’m glad I didn’t just get the old bags and take them to the dump!…I’ve done some pretty stupid things in my time!” he is quoted as saying.

After finding the ticket, the lucky man decided to check it online. Finally, he discovered he had been a millionaire for over a year.

The man is a regular lotto player but says he forgot to bring his NSW Lotteries Players Club Card when he purchased the winning ticket.

Had the man purchased the lotto ticket online through Oz Lotteries, not only would have had the digital ticket in his account but Oz Lotteries would have contacted him to let him know of his winnings and deposited the money straight to his nominated bank account.

When asked what the lucky Newcastle man intends to do with the money he says.

“There’s a few people who are going to benefit from this. I want to help the kids with their house payments and the grandkids with their education. It will smooth the troubled water in front of them.”
