What would you do if you were given $20,000 every month for 20 years? Would you renovate your home? Invest in your own small business? Buy a boat? Donate to your favourite charity? These are just some of the things past Set for Life Division 1 winners have said they use their ‘$20K on Replay’ for.
Set for Life became available to Oz Lotteries customers in early 2019. If you would like to take a shot at the Set for Life Division 1 prize, but aren’t sure where to start, we’ve created this handy guide on how to play Set for Life. Here, you’ll find everything you need to know about Set for Life and how you could win $20,000 every month for 20 years!
Unlike other lotteries that give you the chance to win a one-off lump sum, Set for Life is a lottery that gives you the chance to win $20,000 per month for the next 20 years.
The other major difference between Set for Life and other lotteries is that you’re able to play your numbers across 7 consecutive daily draws. So instead of a weekly draw, Set for Life actually features a new draw every day.
Playing Set for Life is simple. To play Set for Life and try your luck at winning the Division 1 prize, get started with these 3 easy steps:
There are two different types of entries you can choose when you play Set for Life: a one-time entry or multiple-week entry. A one-time entry allows you to enter a ticket for one week’s worth of draws, which is 7 days consecutively. A multiple-week entry allows you to play the same numbers across multiple weeks of draws, up to 10 weeks in advance.
In Set for Life, you need to choose 7 numbers from 1 to 44. You can either choose your own numbers or you can have all 7 numbers randomly generated for you with a QuickPick.
In order to enter the Set for Life draw, you need to make sure that you purchase your ticket before 8:55pm AEST/9:55pm AEDT to be in it to win it!
As Set for Life is a little different to other lottery games, you may be wondering how it works.
Instead of a one-off weekly draw, the Set for Life draw takes place at 9:00pm AEST/10:00pm AEDT every night. You can purchase a ticket any day of the week and be entered in the Set for Life draw for the next 7 days — just make sure you purchase your ticket before the cut-off time of 8:55pm AEST/9:55pm AEDT.
There are 8 Set for Life Divisions. In the Set for Life draw, 7 main numbers and 2 supplementary numbers are randomly selected. These numbers are between 1 and 44, and you need to match all 7 main numbers in order to win the Division 1 prize. To win the lowest Division (Division 8), you only need to match 3 main numbers and 1 supplementary number. The odds of winning Set for Life Division 1 are 1 to 38,320,568. However, your chances of winning Division 8 are just 1 in 80.
Within the 8 Set for Life Divisions, Division 1 has the biggest prize pool. If you win Division 1, you will be entitled to $20,000 each month for 20 years. If you win Division 2, you will win $5,000 each month for 12 months.
The other Set for Life Divisions act more like a traditional lotto game. That is, if you’re lucky enough to win any of the other Divisions between 3 and 8, you’ll walk away with a tax-free, one-off payment that you can spend on whatever you like!
Here is a simple breakdown of the Set for Life Divisions and the numbers you need to win Set for Life:
|Division 1||7 winning numbers||1:38,320,568|
|Division 2||6 winning numbers + 1 supplementary||1:2,737,183|
|Division 3||6 winning numbers||1:156,411|
|Division 4||5 winning numbers + 1 supplementary||1:25,701|
|Division 5||5 winning numbers||1:3,067|
|Division 6||4 winning numbers + 1 supplementary||1:894|
|Division 7||4 winning numbers||1:167|
|Division 8||3 winning numbers + 1 supplementary||1:80|
What if there is more than one winner of Division 1? If there are 4 or less Division 1 winners in a game, then each winner will still receive $20,000 each month for 20 years. However, in the case of there being more than 4 winners, each winner will receive an equal share of the maximum total sum ($19,200,200) each month for 20 years. So even if you do end up sharing your prize with other lucky Set for Life winners, you’ll still be able to enjoy a tax-free payment every month for 20 years! If you’re interested to learn more about the Set for Life rules, you can take a look at them online.
If you’re lucky enough to win the ultimate Division 1 prize, then you will receive your payment on the 15th of every month — otherwise known as ‘$20K Day’! Winners of Division 2 will also receive their payments on the 15th.
If you win one of the other Set for Life Divisions, then your prize payment will automatically be deposited into your Oz Lotteries online account. You can then request to withdraw your funds by direct deposit into your bank account, into a valid PayPal account, or by cheque. And yes — all Set for Life winnings are absolutely tax-free!
