Records tumbled on 17 January, 2019 when the $100 million Powerball jackpot was taken by a single winner, making it the biggest individual prize ever won! It was also the equal largest Powerball jackpot in Australian history. Incredibly, the lucky Powerball winner, who is a woman in her 40’s, received an extra $7.5 million in prize money due to the number of entries she purchased in the draw.
“I don’t believe it! I don’t believe it! Is this a trick?”
This was the reaction of the $100 million Powerball winner when lottery officials called her to confirm the news. She was completely shocked and had no clue that she held the winning ticket. So much so that she originally thought she had won $107,000 instead of $107,000,000!
“Wait – are you telling me I’ve won $107 million?! Oh my God! That is just so much money!”
The winning 12-game Standard ticket, purchased online, was the only one to match all 7 winning Powerball numbers and the all-important Powerball. The winning woman said her win was “so random” because she had simply logged on as a whim and chosen her Powerball numbers without any kind of lotto strategy. Wow!
“I just don’t understand how this lucky ticket has won me $107 million!”
She also said that she had been thinking of her family when she purchased the ticket. And that “of course” she would be helping them with the winnings.
When asked what else she planned to do, the $100 million jackpot winner said she had no plans to retire early from her career. She explained that she was “so passionate about [her] job” as a healthcare professional. She added that the prize money would help her contribute to health care causes that were important to her.
“I’ll be giving to my favourite charity… a whole slab of money!”
Best of all, the money would give her financial freedom to do the things she had always wanted to do – like travelling around in a caravan!
Draw 1183 also generated 3,856,275 prizes worth over $68.4 million in Divisions 2-9. This includes twenty Division 2-winning tickets that took home $94,792.90 each – including one Oz Lotteries customer. The lucky winner, a man in his sixties from Albury in New South Wales, purchased an 18-game Standard ticket from Oz Lotteries. What a fantastic way to kick off 2019!
The winning numbers from Powerball draw 1183 on Thursday 17 January 2019 were 20, 18, 33, 22, 11, 26 and 4 and the Powerball number was 9.
