Time Running Out For Unclaimed Lotto Prizes

It’s the anniversary of two unclaimed lotto prizes! Lottery officials are again putting out the call for the mystery winners to come forward.

Cairns – 22nd January 2014

The first prize, worth $2,000,000, belongs to a Division 1-winning Wednesday Lotto ticket. The ticket was purchased from a local newsagency in Cairns on the 22nd of January 2014. Three years have passed since the $1,000,000 Wednesday Lotto draw. The winning numbers were 44, 3, 11, 42, 22, and 26, plus supplementary numbers 19 and 21.

Lottery officials said the $2,000,000 prize might belong to a local or a traveller who was visiting the popular tourist destination in January 2014. Division 1 winners in Queensland have up to seven years to claim their prize money. Following that period, it goes to the state government or is used for promotional lotto draws.

The winning Wednesday Lotto ticket was one of two that won a Division 1 prize in draw 3315. But it is the only one whose owner has yet to claim their prize money.

Gladesville – 23rd January 2012

The second prize, also worth $2,000,000, belongs to a Division 1-winning Monday Lotto ticket. This was purchased from a local newsagency in Gladesville on the 23rd of January 2012. Five years have passed since the $1,000,000 Monday Lotto draw. Meaning, the winner only has 12 months left before the prize money is reverted to the state government.

The winning numbers from Monday Lotto draw 3106 were 41, 25, 39, 17, 38 and 10. Plus, supplementary numbers 2 and 44. The mystery winner held the only winning ticket in the draw. Amazingly, they have a $2,000,000 surprise waiting for them!

Lottery officials said it was rare for a prize of that size to remain unclaimed for such a long period of time. So they are urging local players or visitors to the Gladesville area during January 2012 to check “all the drawers, down the back of the couch, the car glovebox”. Anywhere they may have stored a lotto ticket!

It may seem hard to believe, but there are millions of dollars’ worth of unclaimed lotto prizes from Australian draws every year. Certainly, lottery officials say they have heard all the excuses in the book. “Threw it in the bin by mistake. The dog ate it. My ticket went through the wash. It blew out the car window. I left it in the carry bag and threw the bag out”.
